Steve Burton Recalls His First Day Back at GENERAL HOSPITAL — See the Exclusive Pics!
It was what GENERAL HOSPITAL fans had been waiting for since 2012 when Steve Burton (Jason) took his last steps out of the studio — the day he returned! Late last year, when cast, crew, and executive producer Frank Valentini gave the two-time Emmy Award winner the welcome he deserved, Burton was on cloud nine. “This really is a great day,” he said at the time, all smiles.

Although viewers at the time couldn’t be completely sure that the mysterious Patient 6 was really Jason Morgan, everyone at the GH studio was completely sure they were thrilled to have Burton back among their numbers. Photographer Jim Warren was on hand to capture the actor’s first-day adventures, and Soaps In Depth has the exclusive behind-the-scenes photos!

First Day Back 1
“It’s like we’re high-school buddies back together, having fun,” Burton said of Maurice Benard (Sonny). “But I can’t have too much fun — I’m Jason!”
First Day Back4
“I’ve had so many great storylines with Kelly,” grinned the actor, with leading lady Monaco (Sam), who feigned surprise over seeing him back on the set. “I have such great memories... and I know I’m going to have a great time with our story!”
First Day Back2
“There’s such a history with everybody I’ve worked with, so we almost don’t have to work — it’s all just there,” Burton said as he was welcomed back (and vice versa) by one of his favorite partners in crime, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).
First Day Back3
“It’s funny, Maurice can Snapchat... but he can’t text me!” Burton marvelled of his buddy, who’s not very tech-savvy, yet regularly takes fans behind the scenes via social media.
First Day Back6
“There’s just so much story to tell,” said Burton as he reviewed a script with Monaco. “In coming back, I was a conduit to a lot of story for a lot of people, and the writers are doing a great job. I think they have story mapped out for the next year and a half already!”
First Day Back5
“I pretty much grew up on this show,” said Burton, who credits GH superstars Kin Shriner (Scotty) and Benard for helping him learn the ropes as a young actor. “Kin is so much fun to work with and hang around the studio with.”
First Day Back7
“Laura and I have had such great times,” recalled Burton, with Wright (Carly). “I love her, and it feels kind of like the old days when I’m in scenes with Sonny and Carly.”
First Day Back8
“Driving into the studio the same way I did for 20 years was surreal,” Burton admitted. “Nostalgic. And now, I’m back and working with the cast and crew again — it feels like home.”
