Eddie Alderson’s Dream to Meet Bruce Springsteen Came True!

Tags:

During his battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, ONE LIFE TO LIVE star Eddie Alderson (Matthew) has shared his journey on social media and has been grateful to his fans and friends for helping him through his struggle. And he recently used Twitter to get the attention of Bruce Springsteen! “‘No Surrender’ has been my motto and go-to song throughout my current fight against Cancer,” the young actor tweeted to the Grammy winner. “I’m seeing your Bruce on Broadway show Dec. 27, and would love to get you to write ‘No Surrender’ on my arm, for my first tattoo! Thank you for being my inspiration!”

“And after tons of people retweeted his dream, it actually came true! Alderson shared the video where you can see him backstage as Springsteen is actually writing “No Surrender” on his arm! “Here is the moment,” the young actor posted. “It happened. I couldn’t be more amazed by how kind and generous Bruce Springsteen was. Thank you all for helping this dream become a reality. Truly a night I will treasure forever.”

And the very next day, the young man posted the results, showing the tattoo he’d had done to make Springsteen’s handwriting permanent! “This is so much more than just a tattoo to me,” Alderson shared.

Alderson revealed his cancer diagnosis back in November of 2016 and has continued to keep his fans in the loop as he’s undergone treatment. And “No Surrender” has been his motto from the very beginning. The song is one of the tracks on Springsteen’s classic Born in the U.S.A. album and has become a staple of his concert tours. Currently, Springsteen is in residency at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City performing Springsteen on Broadway, an intimate show that has proven so popular it has been extended through June of 2018.

Fans and friends retweeted Alderson’s request for Springsteen’s “autograph”, including some of his old OLTL castmates. “Eddie, you’re the best and you inspire me with your strength and bravery!” posted Melissa Fumero (Adriana). Josh Kelly (Cutter) declared: “When I grow up I wanna be Eddie Alderson. Just my thoughts for the day.” Terri Conn (Aubrey) promised Springsteen he “will find no more an inspiration, a talent, or a kind and pure heart than in Eddie Alderson.” And daytime star-turned-Broadway Tony winner Renée Elise Goldsberry (Evangeline) tweeted: “Thank you, Eddie, for inspiring me since our days on OLTL! I stand with you! #NoSurrender”

Alderson was touched by the outpouring of support on social media for both his campaign and also his battle with cancer. “I can’t begin to explain the love I’ve been feeling these last few days from you guys,” he tweeted. “What started as a simple idea of a tweet has turned into me realizing what a true family I have in all of you. Hope everybody had an amazing Christmas!”

Dreams really can come true, especially when you have the support and love of so many people! Those fans have been following his career since it first began on OLTL — see how he’s grown up over the years in the gallery below!
