GUIDING LIGHT’s Kim Zimmer Celebrates 61st Birthday — See Her Greatest Moments!

Tags:

Happy birthday to daytime legend Kim Zimmer, who turns 61 today!

The Emmy-winning actress started on stage and made her first big splash in soaps replacing Kathleen Turner as Nola on THE DOCTORS. Ironically, Zimmer’s resemblance to her predecessor led to her appearing opposite Turner in the classic film, Body Heat!

After THE DOCTORS was cancelled in 1982, Zimmer moved to ONE LIFE TO LIVE as Echo DiSavoy. But it was in 1983, when she was cast as the irrepressible Reva Shayne on GUIDING LIGHT, she became a true daytime superstar.

After a brief stint on NBC’s SANTA BARBARA from 1992-93, Zimmer made some appearances in primetime series like SEINFELD and BABYLON 5. She ultimately returned to GL in 1995 and played the self-proclaimed “Slut of Springfield” until the show’s final episode in 2009. Her pairing with Robert Newman’s Josh Lewis was one of the soap’s most legendary supercouples.

Zimmer returned to OLTL in 2010 to reprise the role of Echo, but left before the soap went off the air. Most recently, the actress has returned to the stage, playing Madame Morrible in a touring production of the Broadway hit, Wicked, and in Gypsy opposite her GL co-star, Newman.

Join us in wishing Zimmer all the best on her big day and enjoy a flashback of some of her career highlights in our special photo gallery! And for more on your GL favorites, keep reading the CBS edition of Soaps In Depth magazine!
