GENERAL HOSPITAL Stars Remember Sonya Eddy

“Sonya and I took this picture on my first return trip back to LA after my family and I moved back to the Midwest. I remember getting back in the GH studio and feeling a little timid. I hadn’t been on the show for six months and I was adapting to a whole new life back in Michigan. I sorta felt like I was new to the show again and I was a little nervous. The Nurses Ball was back again and I was hoping not to disappoint the showrunners for calling me back out. That day, in retrospect, I was in this weird place of finding out who I was in Michigan and also trying to rediscover my identity on GH. Might sound a little dramatic (it fit the narrative) but that’s how I felt.

Sonya was the first castmate I saw in the studio that day and I’ll never forget our genuine excitement to see each other. We talked about our scenes together for that week a bit but mostly we just caught up and had a laugh with one another. She was very easy to do that with. She had a light and comedic tone about her that made you eager for what she was going to say next. Truly, never a dull moment.

We said we should snap this picture “just because” but it probably was to remind me now of that day. I remember feeling lighter after this picture. I wasn’t so worried about how I’d fit back into the canvas for that week of shooting. Sonya set me off on the right foot that week to say the least. She didn’t know it, but I really needed it. I ended up having an awesome week back on the show and when I look back now it started because of her.

They say people don’t always remember what you did or said but they’ll always remember how you made them feel. Well, Sonya, I remember how you made me feel and I’ll never forget it and how it changed a whole week for me for the best.”

“There were so many reasons to love you, Sonya. Your laugh was infectious, your sense of humor, on point. Your professionalism, even while in physical pain, was amazing to me. Your humility and gratitude are something that I will never forget. But mostly I love you because you were my friend. I’m still in shock, but grateful I got to see you the other day. “I want to express my shock and sadness for the unexpected loss of my co-worker, friend, and simply beautiful soul, Sonya Eddy. Sonya was truly beloved at GH. Her presence on set would instantly calm and at the same time light up the place. Sonya was solid. Not a false note in her warm groundedness. A hug from Sonya was a spiritual experience. Her hugs were motherly, sisterly, and full of her heart, which was huge. Sonya was compassionate, generous, and wickedly wry. She got it. She got me. Sonya was a fellow lib and a seeker of justice for others. But she did it quietly and with dignity, while egging me on from the sidelines. ‘Go get em, Nance,’ she’d say.

Sonya used her time on earth to love and be loved. She was just plain lovely. I can only assume that she was lifted up last night as she lifted up others, and that there were welcome arms around her to take her on to her new journey.

Rest in love and power Ebony (personal joke between us. She’ll get it. lol) You were seen, appreciated, and loved.”

“Sonya Eddy was an extremely talented, hardworking, and versatile actor. At one point I counted that she was recurring on four TV shows at the same time (and commuting from across the country at one point)! I had IMDb-stalked her when I began working with her and she was being all humble about trying to hustle for work and I said, ‘Okay, lady on four TV shows right now!’ And she was taken aback that I knew about her background and said, ‘Ok, I don’t know how to respond to that!” 😆 It has been an honor, Sonya. I will miss our talks, your hugs, and just you. ❤️”
