Rebecca Budig Says She’d Love to Return to GENERAL HOSPITAL (EXCLUSIVE)

Tags:

Thanks to some inventive writing, Rebecca Budig got to cram a whole lot of storyline into her nearly 200 episodes of GENERAL HOSPITAL. “Hayden was first described to me as a con woman,” she admitted to Soaps In Depth. “They didn’t really give me much else.” But by the time the character was written off, she’d changed so much that viewers’ hearts were broken along with Finn’s. “It was very flattering for them to have actually grown to like Hayden, because a lot of people didn’t in the beginning,” Budig reflected. “So their response to me leaving was so heartwarming.”

While the actress acknowledged that she’d love to see Hayden bring her baby back to town — “Who wouldn’t want to play all that juicy stuff?!?” — having the downtime to spend with her own little one, Charlotte Jo, has been nice. “She’s strong-willed and yet shy, really funny, artistic, creative and pretty articulate for 3 and a half,” Budig relates. “She’s just fun to be with.”

She and husband Michael Benson often travel with their girl to visit relatives in Kentucky and Minnesota, but Budig says she’s happiest when working on her craft. “I’m taking an acting class with Michael E. Knight (Tad, ALL MY CHILDREN),” she revealed. “He’s brilliant!” Besides honing her skills, having a former castmate from the years when she played AMC’s Greenlee in class is “like seeing a family member,” she said. “It’s been really nice to watch his work.”

The actress also got a chance to stretch when she lent her voice to the recently released audiobook of pal Matt Boren’s first novel, Folded Notes From High School. “I grew up at a time when we folded notes,” she explained, “so the concept really spoke to me, and the book was a fun read.”

Set in the early ’90s, the hilarious correspondence relates the experience of a senior who falls for a freshman due to his memorable audition for the school musical. “I play Tricia. She’s part of the school gossip train,” Budig related. “It was totally different than acting in a show. It was a lot more freeing.”

Might she again get a chance to make people laugh in her new pilot? “All I can say about it is that it’s a comedy,” Budig teased. “Who knows what else I’ll do?”
