The daytime community is mourning the loss of one of its own as Jed Allan has died at the age of 84. His son, Rick Brown, broke the news on March 9 with a post on Facebook. “So sorry to post the very sad news of my father’s passing tonight,” he wrote. “He died peacefully and was surrounded by his family and loved so much by us and so many others.”
Allan made his debut as the troublemaking Ace Hubbard on LOVE OF LIFE back in 1964, and from 1964-65, he played Paul Britton on THE SECRET STORM. But he may be best remembered by daytime fans for playing Don Craig on DAYS OF OUR LIVES from 1971-85 or C.C. Capwell on SANTA BARBARA from 1986-93. In 2004, Allan took over the role of GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Edward Quartermaine for a couple years until John Ingle returned to the role in 2006.
Outside of daytime, Allan played Forest Ranger Scott Turner on the classic TV series LASSIE from 1968-70, and in the ‘90s had a recurring role on BEVERLY HILLS 90210 playing Rush Sanders. Shortly after mourning his friend, fellow daytime alum Luke Perry, Ian Ziering had to say goodbye to his on-screen dad. “So sad to hear we’ve lost another 90210 castmate,” the actor shared. “I had the pleasure of working with Jed Allan from 94-99. He played Rush Sanders, Steve’s father. Such a great guy to work with, he will be missed.”
