GENERAL HOSPITAL’S Cassandra James Opens up About the Importance of Trans Visibility

Tags:

June is Pride Month, and while GENERAL HOSPITAL was included in the video that ABC created featuring the LGBTQ characters in its programming, the soap has produced its own special video with trans actress Cassandra James, who portrays Dr. Terry Randolph. In it, she speaks about how important representation is in the LGBTQ community and how proud she is to be playing this role on a television series that is reaching such a wide audience.

“Pride, as an Asian American transgender woman means to me an opportunity to be visible,” she declared. “And I’m so honored and grateful to GH and ABC as a network for allowing me to be visible and to continue to contribute to the narrative of my beautiful transgender community. It’s not lost on me the importance of the work that I’m doing. The importance of Terry, the character that I play, who is an out trans woman who is a doctor who has love and support from her friends in Port Charles.

“I think it’s fair to say that these types of portrayals are still quite rare. But their resonance is great,” James continued. “I want the transgender community to feel well represented and well loved by this amazing industry that I’m a part of. The work that GH and ABC has and continues to be committed to, certainly makes me proud.”

You can watch James deliver her heartfelt words herself in the video below. And stay tuned to watch her continue to raise awareness and bring visibility to the transgender community through her work on GH.
