Daytime Emmys 2018: GENERAL HOSPITAL Actors Open up About Their Nominations (EXCLUSIVE)

Tags:

This year, GENERAL HOSPITAL earned 26 Daytime Emmy Awards nominations across a variety of categories both in front of and behind the camera. And three of the nominated actors, Chloe Lanier (Nelle), Anthony Montgomery (Andre) and Vernee Watson (Stella) shared with Soaps In Depth their reaction to the honor and revealed what they’ve submitted in the hopes of taking home the trophy on Emmy night!

Chloe Lanier (Nelle)

Lanier is excited to be sharing the Younger Actress category with castmate Hayley Erin (Kiki). “It’s just cool when friends are nominated,” she confided. “I don’t think about it as a competition. Our characters couldn’t be more different.” And in fact, the actress revealed that she was the one who broke the news to her pal! “The first thing I did was call Hayley,” Lanier admitted, “and said congratulations. She as like, ‘What the hell are you talking about?’ She had no idea! So that was really fun.”

Lanier revealed that she and Lead Actress nominee Laura Wright submitted scenes from the same episode for their Emmy reels, if not the exact same scenes! “Then I submitted scenes with Chad Duell (Michael) on the dock, where Nelle’s explaining how she came to be the way she is. The next scenes were with Sonny, Carly, and Michael, where Nelle’s laying out the ground rules of how this pregnancy is going to go. And then the last ones were with Chad and I, where he’s confronting Nelle over the ring she still has from her former fiancé. Chad’s in the whole tape!”

Montgomery admitted that he still hasn’t adjusted to the fact that from now on he’ll be known as “Emmy-nominated Anthony Montgomery.” “That’s kind of surreal to me,” he confessed, “but it’s pretty cool.

To earn his Outstanding Supporting Actor nomination and the possible win, the actor selected a variety of scenes. “I submitted the breakup scenes with Andre and Jordan, because that was the first time we got to see him actually emote outside of being a doctor,” Montgomery reported. “Then the scene when Andre was in jail with Franco, which was a bit of a therapy session for Franco but it allowed me to play something different. And then the sequence of scenes with Finola [Hughes, Anna], who I could never have enough high praise for. Such an angel. Love her.”

Montgomery also admitted that he and real-life love Vinessa Antoine (Jordan) haven’t really celebrated his nomination because they’re both busy with work. “I’ll celebrate at some point,” he declared. “We’ll go out to dinner or something and I’ll go have a drink towards it. And if, God willing, I win, we’ll have a celebration! But right now I want to maximize what these moments are.”

Vernee Watson (Stella)

Up for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series, Watson confessed she’s trying to keep her emotions under control. “I don’t want to get too excited, because then you start expecting things!” she confessed. “So I’m trying to keep myself calm and just be grateful. I did work hard on it.”

When it came to what scenes to submit for Emmy consideration, Watson herself made a suggestion to the producers, even though they hadn’t even shot it yet! “I was preparing for the scene that they actually submitted when one of the producers walked by and told me she was glad I was on the show and that they were going to submit me for nomination,” she explained. “I said, ‘That’s cool. You might want to look at what I’m shooting today.’ And that’s the one they chose! It was the one where I go into the police station and wear Vinessa Antoine’s Jordan out. It was horrible! What I had to say to her was not nice.”
