When a tween Haley Pullos was first cast as GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Molly, “I felt like I was stepping into a whole new universe,” she recalled to Soaps In Depth. “It was really interesting — especially being such a little tiny girl on that set and in the dressing rooms downstairs. That’s a huge place! It was like this magical, mysterious land that I was being welcomed into.”
However, it didn’t take long for her to get comfortable as one of the Davis girls. “Because I felt so welcomed and so loved,” she said. “It was a really great literal family to grow up within. I’ve been so lucky to work with so many talented people and grow up being influenced by all of them. It’s wonderful. GH has absolutely shaped me as a person and as an actor.”
While Molly was surviving coming of age as a member of one of Port Charles’ most complicated families, Pullos was learning her own lessons about life. “I mostly went to school at GH, and I literally bought my first training bra here,” she shared with a laugh. “I’ve had a completely different experience growing up than a lot of people do. It’s been interesting… but not in a bad way, by any means. This is just my world. I don’t know anything else.”
And by the time she had her diploma in hand, there was no turning back from acting. “I was like, ‘Now it’s time to fully focus on my career — let’s do it!’” recounted Pullos, who found herself more than prepared for the task. “On any project, you have to be so responsible with your lines and all that, but at GH, we move so quickly. So I’m constantly on it. I know my stuff, I know what I’m doing, and I don’t waste anybody’s time. Because wasting time is literally wasting money on a set.”
That drive is where Pullos and her overachieving character collide, now that they’ve grown up. “She and I are both very career-focused women,” said the actress, who appears in Netflix’s THE EXPANDING UNIVERSE OF ASHLEY GARCIA and had not one but two auditions the very day she spoke with Soaps In Depth. “Light some candles and cross your fingers for me that there’s a lot more to report soon!”
While the actress and her character both have their eyes fixed on their futures, however, Pullos is no Molly. “I’m a lot goofier and more relaxed,” she contended. “But the big difference between us is the things that we’re passionate about and focused on. Our careers and just the things that we want out of life are very different.”
Pullos is not suggesting she has an issue with Miss Molly. “I love her tenacity, her outspokenness, and her true desire to just help others,” she raved. “She’s so empathetic, loving and caring. I also love that Molly is a Cassadine. That’s so cool! And I think that’s where she gets a lot of her bravado and moxie.”
Of course, the romantic do-gooder can come off a bit self-righteous at times — as Alexis, Kristina and Sam can all attest! “But honestly, is Molly ever really wrong?” Pullos challenged… before confessing that that’s actually just what she’d like to see for her character. “It’s time for something to go wrong in Molly’s life. Let her make some bad decisions or just do one stupid thing that has repercussions. She’s so perfect, she needs to mess up!”
