Although the show itself has not issued an official statement regarding Michelle Stafford leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL where she currently plays Nina, James Patrick Stuart has already taken to social media to express his sadness over losing his talented and beautiful co-star. “I’ve never wanted so much to believe in ‘fake news,’” he tweeted when the news broke on March 30.
Shortly after, he shared a promo picture of himself with Stafford and tweeted: “It’s all fun and games… Until you lose Michelle Stafford.” And when one fan asked what he was going to do now, he replied simply, “Miss her.”
The following day, Stuart posted another photo of them together with a caption written in French. Translated, it reads: “Michelle, I adore you. Thank you for making my life and work so magical. I will miss you so much.”
Stuart joined the cast of GH as Valentin Cassadine back in July of 2016, and his paring with Stafford’s Nina Reeves proved to be very popular with fans. So they were naturally upset when his villainous actions spelled the end of their marriage. He won her back by presenting Nina with her long-lost daughter, but since that’s all an elaborate lie, it’s going to be ugly when Nina learns the truth. Because GH does not officially comment on actors’ contracts, there’s no way of knowing when Stafford will last air as Nina or if the role will be recast or written out of the soap. Stafford has been reported to be returning to Y&R to play Phyllis again, that soap has also not comment officially on the casting.
