It’s hard to imagine how GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Valentin will worm his way out of the massive lie he’s concocted about Sasha being Nina’s daughter. “The moment I read it, I thought, ‘Oy, that’s awful!’” portrayer James Patrick Stuart confessed to Soaps In Depth with a laugh. “I don’t see how anybody can be redeemed from this… but it’s good drama!”
And for the record, the actor actually does see a way out for his character. “My feeling is, he can always throw Curtis under the bus,” Stuart winked. “Curtis is the guy who did the dirty work. And I just can’t understand how Valentin has always been okay with Nina being dear friends with such a beautiful man!” he added with a laugh. “I am sure Valentin is just waiting for his moment to hurt Curtis as badly as he can, so yes, Curtis should be his escape hatch.”
Joking aside, as this lie about Sasha has percolated, Charlotte’s school trouble has shown Nina to be a misguided mean girl herself — and that may be Valentin’s true saving grace. “Say what you will, but Valentin does know a certain decorum and line that shouldn’t be crossed, because then you lose control of the situation,” Stuart contended. “And he’s watched Nina step over that line a couple of times.
“She’s definitely been brought down to a level of crazy,” he continued. “I don’t know if it matches Valentin’s level of insidious insensitivity, but they’re not so far apart anymore. They’re both nuts. Perhaps this [relationship] is sick and twisted… and yet it works for them? And even if he delivers someone who isn’t legitimately her daughter, their love somehow can transcend that.”
At least Valentin’s hoping that that will be the case! But for the time being, it’s anybody’s guess how this web of lies will play out! Stay tuned to find out and for more GH news, keep reading the ABC edition of Soaps In Depth magazine.
