What Happened to Kim Nero on GENERAL HOSPITAL
The character of Kim Nero on GENERAL HOSPITAL was a familiar face to many longtime fans when she showed up in November of 2017 because she is played by Tamara Braun, who was Emmy-nominated during her stint as Carly Corinthos from 2001-05! Kim was immediately thrust into a heavy dramatic storyline involving her son, but once he passed away, she was left wondering what to do next… unfortunately, things didn’t turn out well and Braun was written out of the soap.
Since Oscar Nero was dating her daughter, Josslyn, Carly wanted to meet his mother, Kim. The teen claimed she was very busy, but Carly insisted that they come to Thanksgiving and was delighted when the doctor showed. Things took a shocking turn when Jason Morgan arrived, and Kim thought he was Drew Cain, who she had dated briefly when he was a Navy SEAL. After reconnecting with the actual Drew, Kim revealed that he is actually Oscar’s biological father and they had moved to New York in the hopes of finding him.
Although originally working at Mercy Hospital, Kim transferred her practice to General Hospital where she was the primary OB/GYN for various women in Port Charles, including Maxie Jones and Nelle Benson. When Oscar suffered a seizure, Kim admitted that her son was dying of an inoperable brain tumor and she hadn’t told him so he could enjoy what remained of his life before learning the awful truth. Oscar was furious with his mother and refused to undergo the experimental treatment his parents wanted, even going so far as to try to become an emancipated minor.
Thankfully, Kim was able to repair her relationship with Oscar as his condition worsened so she could be with him until the very end. She began a romance with Julian Jerome, who briefly dumped her so she could be with Drew and Oscar could have his parents back together. But after kissing Drew on New Year’s Eve, Kim remained committed to Julian, who she had nicknamed “Charlie.”
Kim’s heart broke when Oscar finally succumbed to his cancer and passed away. She and Drew decided to scatter their son’s ashes in Kilimanjaro but upon her return, Kim became determined to fill the void in her life by having another baby. When Julian turned her down, insisting no baby could replace Oscar in her heart, she turned to Drew, who also refused. Desperate, Kim drugged Drew during Liz and Franco’s wedding reception and tried to have sex with him. Thankfully, Julian interrupted and Drew declined to press charges against her.
Deciding it would be best to leave Port Charles, Kim convinced Julian to sell Charlie’s Pub and come with her to live in New York City, but everything changed when Shiloh had Dr. Cabot implant Drew’s old memories into Franco Baldwin‘s head. Although she was looking at Liz’s husband, Franco believed he was Drew, and Kim fell under that spell, overwhelmed to be reunited with the man she’d once loved. Unable to resist, Kim slept with Franco, and when she came clean to Julian about it, he naturally kicked her to the curb.
Kim planned to leave Port Charles to make a fresh start somewhere else and wanted “Drew” to come with her, but Franco’s loved ones urged him to reconsider. In the end, Kim was heartbroken when Franco decided to try and return to being himself and she simply left town on her own.
In December 2020, Julian went to New York City looking for Kim but she was out, so he only spoke to her nanny. He did learn that Kim has a baby named Andrew, though the nanny later called Kim to assure her she’d gotten rid of Julian and he had no idea the boy was his!
