GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Maurice Benard Shares His Brutal Struggle With Bipolar Disorder on DR. OZ
Maurice Benard (Sonny, GENERAL HOSPITAL) will be making a very powerful appearance on an upcoming episode of DR. OZ.
The actor has been an outspoken advocate for mental health issues, and does not shy away from sharing his own battle with bipolar disorder. On the episode — airing Thursday, Feb. 25 — he will be discussing how GH has portrayed both Sonny and Morgan’s struggles with the same condition.
Soaps In Depth hears that the taping went very well, and that Benard grew extremely emotional during the multi-segment interview, especially when a GH co-star surprised him with a pre-taped message. It’s also incredibly impressive that the Emmy winner was able to overcome his longstanding fear of flying to tape the NYC-based talk show in person.
