Although known for playing GENERAL HOSPITAL’s brooding Mob boss, Sonny Corinthos, anyone who follows Maurice Benard on social media gets to see another side to the goat-loving Instagram fanatic. “I get very excited by Instagram and the goats have become a craze,” the actor told Soaps In Depth with a grin. “I have two, but the black-and-white goat is the one who’s the star. Buddy bites me and runs around and jumps on me. And he kisses me when I tell him. Now I have people sending me goat things, like lotion and milk. And at work, everybody’s always like, ‘Those goats!’”
For a spell, however, Benard had to pull his prima donna star out of the spotlight. “The problem is he doesn’t do what I tell him to do when we’re shooting,” he grumbled. “I had to tell him, ‘We need to relax for a bit, since you don’t do what I say.’ So I took a little break with him on Instagram… but I had another friend. He’s a little dog named Jeter. He’s going to be my next Instagram star.”
Though Jeter was indeed a hit, fans were left bleating for the return of his goats. “So I did another video, where me and Buddy are reunited and I played the song ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy,’” he said. “We are back together! It’s great.”
This soapy bromance is surely still developing on the actor’s Instagram page, @mauricebenard — which he also uses to share videos and snapshots from both his real and reel lives. “My dad was a hit and my wife’s a huge star, which is amazing,” the actor bragged. “But you know who’s really the biggest star in my posts? Chad Duell (Michael)! When he dances, the response is amazing. Dominic Zamprogna (ex-Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) are also great, of course. My Instagram followers are not into boxing or seeing me playing Serious Guy, posing for selfies. They like the goofy stuff!”
And Benard is only too happy to oblige.
