The SYFY network invites you to head back to the 60s and then out into space in their highly anticipated, three-consecutive-night miniseries event, ASCENSION. In it, GENERAL HOSPITAL’s own Cynthia Preston (ex-Faith) plays the wife of a man (Gil Bellows, ALLY MCBEAL) whose father had founded a top-secret mission on an interstellar spaceship that was deemed a lifeboat for humanity. But 50 years into their efforts to populate a new world, the unprecedented and mysterious murder of a young woman leads the voyagers to question their mission, and the man to want to continue his father’s work. “I had a great time working with Gil. He is an extremely kind and generous actor,” Preston tells Soaps In Depth. “Though my time on set was brief, I felt like I’d made a friend.” The mini-series, which stars BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s Tricia Helfer as a dangerous powerbroker and wife of the ship’s captain, was directed by Preston’s fellow Canadian, Stephen Williams (LOST). “I really enjoyed meeting and working with Stephen, as well as Philip Levens, the executive producer/show runner,” Preston offers. “It was a really relaxed, creative set to work on, and ASCENSION was a great pleasure to be involved with.” The three-night, six-hour event airs at 9 p.m. EST beginning Monday, December 15, on SYFY.
