Happy Anniversary OLTL!

On Monday, July 15, ONE LIFE TO LIVE celebrates its 45th anniversary, one that many of the cast, crew and fans probably never thought they’d actually celebrate! “It’s interesting,” says Kassie DePaiva (Blair). “This week two years ago we found out that Prospect Park was going to pick up these shows for the Internet. Now, granted, it didn’t come through the first time, but this anniversary it almost feels like it never ended even though it did, because we’re back and we’re doing this.”

The actress adds that like the fans, she too never gave up hoping that OLTL would have one more life to live one day. “Every day on the street people kept it alive through tweets and Facebook and comments,” DePaiva marvels. “So it just feels right that we certainly should have a bigger celebration when we all get together back in production because we do have a lot to celebrate!”

The venerable soap’s 45th anniversary also brings the first day of OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network’s “Summer Fling” with OLTL and ALL MY CHILDREN, with the cable network running the first 40 episodes of each series and bringing them from the Internet back to television.

“It’s wonderful for Prospect Park,” DePaiva says, “because they put in a lot to make this happen and it’s just going to be nice for them hopefully to recover some revenue so we can continue to do this and for all the people that cannot or don’t have access to computers, hopefully they’ll have access to cable and they’ll be able to watch on OWN.”

She’s also thrilled that Winfrey changed her mind about airing soaps on her network and is thrilled at the recent resurgence the genre has enjoyed. “Soaps are still going strong,” DePaiva declares, “and I’m glad that people are continuing to watch.”
