Soap Star Donald May Dead at 94
Veteran actor Donald May died on Jan. 28 at the age of 94 at home with his wife, Carla Borelli-May, at his side. The news was first reported by Laurie Noyes in a Facebook group devoted to THE EDGE OF NIGHT. May was perhaps best known for playing attorney Adam Drake on the CBS/ABC sudser from 1967-77.
May’s other daytime credits include playing the mayor of Llanview on ONE LIFE TO LIVE and Earl Foster on ALL MY CHILDREN, Raymond Speer on AS THE WORLD TURNS as well as Grant Wheeler on the ANOTHER WORLD spinoff TEXAS. (In fact, he made his TEXAS love interest, Carla Borelli, his second wife.) He also had roles on primetime soaps DALLAS and FALCON CREST.
May’s first big role was playing Cadet Charles C. Thompson on the CBS anthology series WEST POINT and throughout the ‘60s could be seen on shows like 77 SUNSET STRIP, COLT .45, SUGARFOOT, SURFSIDE 6, and THE ROARING 20’S. Soap fans who enjoyed the actor throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s could also see him guest-starring in primetime series like FANTASY ISLAND, QUINCY M.E., THE FACTS OF LIFE, THE DUKES OF HAZZARD, and L.A. LAW (which was his final screen appearance before his retirement in 1993).
May is survived by his wife as well as his two sons, Christopher and Douglas, from his first marriage to Ellen Cameron. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.
