Would You Watch GH In Primetime?

Should GENERAL HOSPITAL be taken off the ABC Daytime roster in September to make room for Katie Couric’s syndicated new chatfest, there just may be a Plan B for the network’s sole remaining soap opera: Moving it to primetime!

In its new print issue as well as on its Web site, TV Guide reports that one scenario being bandied about by ABC is moving GH to primetime programming as a short-run summer series, similar to a Spanish telenovela. According to TV Guide’s insider, even if the cost of production doubled over the typical budget of approximately $200,000 an episode, an after-dark version of GH would still be inexpensive for an original scripted show. A spokesperson for GH had no comment.
