ABC soap fans may only know Maura West for playing Ava Jerome on GENERAL HOSPITAL, but before she joined the cast of that soap in 2013, the actress was best known for playing the iconic Carly Tenney on CBS sudser AS THE WORLD TURNS from 1995 until the soap’s unfortunate cancellation in 2010.
During her run on ATWT, West earned two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress among her seven nominations and was one-half of one of the soap’s most popular supercouples alongside Michael Park’s Jack Snyder. On July 13, an ATWT Twitter account reminded fans that 22 years ago on this day, the unforgettable scene aired where Jack gave Carly a compass so that she could always find her way back to him. And very quickly, West responded with an actual photo of the prop in question and declared: “Still have it…” with a heart emoji.
The romance between Jack and Carly had fans enraptured with every twist and turn in their rollercoaster relationship. And knowing that West still has the compass from that scene had them overcome with emotion, tweeting replies like, “Oh mah heart…” and “Aw man, Maura… all the feels! You two were so special to watch.”
Nicknamed “CarJack,” the Carly and Jack pairing proved one of ATWT’s most popular and enduring couples as over the years, that compass repeatedly brought Carly back to her “True North.” In fact, when the soap came to an end in 2010, Jack and Carly were re-married and learned that they were going to become parents again. So as far as their fans are concerned, the couple is still living happily ever after!
