Cynthia Watros debuts as Y&R’s Kelly

As previously reported, fan favorite Cynthia Watros (Annie, GL) makes her Y&R debut on Friday, November 15. The Emmy-winning actress describes her character, Kelly, as “a grieving mother who lost her son. She’s in a support group and meets Billy (Billy Miller),” who’s still grappling with the death of his beloved daughter, Delia.

Watros adds that Kelly’s a teacher who’s taken some time off from her job, hoping to regain some sense of normalcy in her life. At press time, the actress was set to appear in about seven episodes of Y&R (with the potential for more). What would the show have to do to entice her to stay longer? “I told Jill [Farren Phelps, executive producer] that as long as she wants me and we can work around each other’s schedules, I’ll be happy to be there as much as I can,” Watros says with a smile.

Time will tell if Kelly will resemble more of the Annie whom GL viewers first met — the sweet, supportive nurse who caught the eye of Josh — or if she’ll be more like the psychotic terror who tried to destroy Reva! “I love playing all kinds of characters,” Watros says. “If Kelly turns out to have hidden characteristics, I’d love to explore [them].”
