Supergirl Lands In Genoa City!

Helen Slater debuts as Dr. Chiverton, Victoria’s OB/GYN, on the Friday, May 2 episode of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS. “I’ve been interested in doing daytime for a while,” the actress tells Soaps In Depth. “It’s a medium I haven’t done before, and this just seemed like a perfect way to enter it.”

The actress — who made her 1984 film debut as the title character in Supergirl — believes that the stigmas of film thespians doing daytime aren’t as severe as they once might have been. “There will always be some people who draw more strict lines in the sand, but this has been such a fun, interesting journey,” she says of her Y&R experience.

How is Slater, who has a theater and improv background, finding the pace of daytime? “I could not believe it,” she says of how quickly scenes are taped. “My mouth dropped open! They were very sweet from the control booth [when I had to do a second take]. I think this is my first doctor role. I have an examination room and clipboard and I’m saying things like ‘fetal cell analysis.’ It’s like learning a new language!”

When Slater’s not busy acting, she’s staying creative in other ways. She wrote the music for a CD she produced titled Myths Of Ancient Greece — Songs And Stories For Kids Of All Ages! “I’ve been a huge lover of Greek mythology ever since I read The Odyssey,” Slater adds. “I feel like giving back, because some of these myths may get lost and I feel that they are important!”
