Darla Einstein Forrester may be gone from THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, but she will never be forgotten. Originally introduced in 1989, the role was played by actress Schae Harrison up until Darla’s tragic death in 2006. She made occasional returns as a ghost in 2007, 2014, and 2015, but now is just a memory to those who loved her. Of course, if you’re a newer viewer of B&B, you wouldn’t remember Darla at all — which is where we come in!
Darla was introduced as Sally Spectra’s faithful assistant and had a brief relationship with Bill Spencer Sr., but didn’t have a whole lot to do until she wound up in bed with Thorne Forrester in 2003 and got pregnant! Thorne had been drunk and she thought it would be best to have an abortion, but he convinced her to give the baby to him and his wife, Macy Alexander. Although, after Macy dumped Thorne for Deacon Sharpe, Darla decided to keep the baby and raise it herself. And since Thorne was now single, he decided to help her out. When the baby girl was born, they named her Alexandria in honor of Macy, who had recently died in an accident. Darla and Thorne began to fall in love with each other and soon married, giving their daughter the full name of Alexandria “Aly” Forrester.
Thorne was always treated as second best at Forrester, and when Darla tried to defend her husband, she was treated the same way. Ridge Forrester and his wife, Brooke Logan Forrester, treated her like a glorified secretary and called her a dingbat. And worse, she once accidentally picked up the wrong envelope from the office to give to Sally, inadvertently stealing photos of Forrester’s new line for the competition! Darla wanted to run away and hide, but Thorne promised he would always love her no matter what.
When the rivalry between the Forrester brothers escalated to the point where Thorne quit, Sally hired him at Spectra and Darla continued to support her husband and boost his confidence. Unfortunately, after a fashion showdown between Forrester and Spectra, Sally was forced to shut down the company and decided to retire on a cruise around the world. Darla didn’t want to say goodbye to the woman she’d always thought of as a mother and invited her to move in with her and Thorne.
Tragically, Darla was killed in a hit-and-run accident when she tried to help her niece, Phoebe Forrester, fix a flat tire on the side of the highway. Worried about her daughter, a drunk Taylor Hayes rushed to the scene and as she approached, Darla fell in front of her car and was struck. Although rushed to the hospital, Darla passed away with Thorne and Sally at her bedside.
Darla made occasional spectral appearances to Aly in subsequent years, until Aly also met a tragic end and joined her mother in heaven. But to those who remember her, Darla will always be a part of the family. For more B&B news, keep reading the CBS edition of Soaps In Depth magazine.
