THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Lexie Stevenson Opens up About Suffering From Endometriosis

Young actress Lexie Stevenson, who plays Mattie Ashby on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, opened up in a recent blog post about why she’s been in and out of emergency rooms recently. She revealed that she suffers from Endometriosis, a condition where tissue that normally covers the inside of a woman’s uterus grows outside of it, causing extreme pain and discomfort. “Imagine having hundreds of blisters on your organs and there is nothing you can do to get rid of them or ease the pain,” Stevenson wrote. “Bottom line is, it sucks… a lot.”

The actress admitted she had been in and out of hospitals for years before she was properly diagnosed. “Every time I went to the ER they told me it was stress,” Stevenson explained, “and one time they even asked my parents if I was getting enough attention at home.”

But a year and a half ago she was with her boyfriend and found herself rushed to the ER in pain where she discovered she had two ovarian cysts that had burst and a growth on one of her ovaries. This led her to a specialist that she says saved her life. “He recommended surgery to have the growth removed,” Stevenson recalled. “During the surgery, my doctor found more than just the growth. He found a golf ball-size of intestine that had been pinched off by endometrial tissue. He said it looked like it had been there for about three years. He also said I should have been in pain 24/7 because my body had not healed itself. I likely would have died.”

Now that Stevenson is living in Los Angeles and working on Y&R, she is being referred to a new specialist, but she continues to see her doctors in order to stay on top of her condition. “I have also found that cutting gluten out of my diet has helped immensely as far as making the pain easier to handle,” she reported. “That’s as far as my story goes for now. Please know that Endometriosis Awareness Month is in March and women will be marching for awareness on March 24.”
