Stuart Brooks on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS — Everything You Need to Know

A mention of Stuart Brooks on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS may have those who aren’t longtime fans of the soap curious about this man from Genoa City’s past, so that’s where we come in! The character first appeared when Y&R premiered in March of 1973 and was played by Robert Colbert until Stuart’s death in 1983.

Stuart Brooks was high school friends with folks like Katherine Chancellor, John Abbott, Dina Mergeron, and Neil Fenmore. He was married to Jennifer Brooks and they had four daughters: Leslie, Lorie, Chris, and Peggy. Stuart was a wealthy newspaper publisher and disapproved of medical student Snapper Foster’s budding relationship with his daughter, Chris. He also helped Brad Elliot get started in Genoa City by offering the penniless drifter a job.

Jennifer and Stuart’s marriage hit a snag when her ex, Bruce Henderson, returned and convinced her to leave her husband for him. Stuart suffered a heart attack, and Bruce, who was a cardiologist, was brought in to consult. Jennifer stayed to nurse her husband back to health, but once he was recovered, filed for divorce and went to Chicago with Bruce. However, after suffering from breast cancer and having a mastectomy, Jennifer felt disfigured and ran home to Stuart, who still loved her.

Stuart and Jennifer reconciled, but the family was shaken when Jennifer told Lorie that Bruce was really her father. After Jennifer passed away from a heart condition, Stuart grew closer to Liz Foster, who didn’t feel like she was worthy of a rich man like him. Jill Foster took advantage of her mother’s hesitance and seduced Stuart herself! Convincing him she was pregnant with his child, Jill conned him into marrying her and refused to divorce once he learned the truth. Eventually, Stuart was able to free himself from Jill and married Liz. They left Genoa City to live in London in 1982, and when Liz returned to town in 1984, she revealed that Stuart had died.

In October of 2019, Jack and Traci were digging into Dina’s past when they discovered that she had an affair with Stuart, which led to her getting pregnant. Dina left town and gave birth to Stuart’s son, who was put up for adoption and grew up as Eric Vanderway, making Theo Vanderway Dina and Stuart’s grandson.

Stay tuned to see how Stuart’s past continues to affect the future in Genoa City!
