Ever since he arrived in Genoa City, Theo has been stirring up nothing but trouble for Kyle on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS. But the hunk’s portrayer, Tyler Johnson, told Soaps In Depth that it’s all in the interest of full disclosure. “Theo does everything with passion, enthusiasm — and his passion for the truth can sometimes get him into trouble,” he explained. “But he’s most interested in the light that the truth brings. He wants everything out in the open!”
Of course, there are some parts of their shared past that Kyle would most definitely like to keep under wraps, and that includes Zoe, the underage teen who nearly died at that big party, and whose father Kyle paid off to keep the whole incident under wraps. The very same young woman who Theo not only brought to Genoa City, but as his guest to Kyle and Lola’s wedding! “Theo wants to have some fun and push Kyle’s buttons — the two, in this case, aren’t mutually exclusive!” teased Johnson. “Kyle has been so dismissive of Theo’s and their [friendship], their past. He wants to see if he can get Kyle to crack, to break with the holier-than-thou persona he’s adopted since moving back to Genoa City.
“Theo knows Kyle’s other side,” he added slyly. “They were very close for a long time, and the changes that Theo sees in Kyle strike him as inauthentic. The gap between who Kyle was in New York and who he is now is just too wide! Theo is willing to push that perceived facade to see what’s really behind it!”
But while some viewers might think that Theo is just a troublemaker out to destroy his friend’s happiness, Johnson insisted it’s not that simple, and said that when it comes to making Kyle acknowledge his past, “he has the best of intentions. He [just wants] certain things out in the open. The passion of his own convictions can sometimes lead to dramatic consequences!”
Stay tuned to see what those consequences might be, and for more from Y&R‘s Johnson, don’t miss his exclusive interview in the CBS edition of Soaps In Depth on sale Monday, Sept. 16!
