Blake Berris Opens Up About His “Bonkers” DAYS Return

The character of Nick Fallon is dead and buried on DAYS OF OUR LIVES (and we mean dead, dead; not soap opera dead) but that hasn’t stopped the soap from finding ways to work the villain’s former portrayer, Blake Berris, back into the Salem storylines now and then. The actor reprised the role to play a zombie in DAYS’ creepy Halloween episode in 2021 and appeared in Peacock’s A Very Salem Christmas movie that same year, and “had such a good time doing it,” he recently told Soap Opera Digest. So, when the soap came calling again, he was all for it — without even knowing what the storyline would be.

“I’m so interested every time they call because my character is dead,” Berris said. “Then I started reading the script, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is bonkers.’ But I just loved the writing of it so much.’”

Berris added that he was shocked to learn that Nick is now working as Satan’s assistant. Once the “initial shock” wore off, however, he enjoyed the storyline that found his vindictive character tormenting Marlena, Kate, and Kayla in purgatory, negotiating with them to sell their souls. “There’s some great comedy in it,” he pointed out, adding that “it does come around on this mini-arc. There is some vulnerability there and I had a great time with it. It was a fun couple of weeks.”

The actor was thrilled to be sharing the screen with Deidre Hall (Marlena), Mary Beth Evans (Kayla), and Lauren Koslow (Kate). “Deidre and I would have an occasional scene back when I first started, and she was always really lovely to me. But we got a lot closer… uh… physically during the Halloween special when [devil Marlena] raised Nick up from the dead and we started briefly making out,” he revealed. “We just had a ball with each other and really bonded, even more, this time. Mary Beth is so funny and she’s just great to work with. Lauren is such an amazing actress. Kate and Nick had this real rivalry for a while and we had all these one-on-one scenes going at each other. There’s a similar sort of bitchiness that they both have that was really fun to revisit.”

Professionally, Berris has been focusing more on his writing, producing, and directing recently — although he will appear in an upcoming episode of 911. And personally, the actor and his wife, Alexandra McGuinness, are parents of three young boys. (“It’s a madhouse, as you can imagine,” he says of his sons.) But DAYS will always have a special place in Berris’ heart. “I feel really thankful for it,” he confessed. “I’m so thrilled that they keep bringing me back and I hope there’s more.”
