Deidre Hall Remembers the Late Wilford Brimley

Tags:

Veteran actor Wilford Brimley passed away on Aug. 1 at the age of 85 while being treated for kidney problems. He’s best known for his commercials for Quaker Oats and American Diabetes Association, films like Cocoon, The Natural, and The Thing, and starring in the television series OUR HOUSE. His co-star on that show, Deidre Hall (Marlena, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) shared a photo of them together on set to remember her late friend. “We lost a great one yesterday,” she wrote. “Every day with Wilford was a life lesson. Heaven just got a lot more interesting.”

OUR HOUSE ran for two seasons from 1986 to 1988. Although Hall initially appeared on both the NBC drama and DAYS at the same time, she left the soap in 1987 to focus on her primetime series. OUR HOUSE starred Brimley as a retired widower who invites his daughter, played by Deidre Hall, and her three children to move in with him while she gets back on her feet. Shannen Doherty, who played Hall’s oldest daughter on the show, also remembered Brimley fondly.

“I met Wilford when we did OUR HOUSE together,” she recalled on Instagram. “He taught me a lot on that show. He also gave me a horse named Brownie. Taught me how to ski in Utah. Had two African Greys that would curse and call his dogs only to laugh at them when they came running. He gave big hugs and told great jokes. He was in fact like a grandpa to me for a very long time. He was talented and will be missed.”

Our thoughts are with Hall, Doherty, and all of Brimley’s family and friends during this difficult time.
