Former DAYS Star Cody Longo Dead at 34

Tags:

Actor and musician Cody Longo, who played DAYS OF OUR LIVES’ Nicholas Alamain for a stretch back in 2011, has sadly passed away at the age of 34. According to TMZ, who first broke the news, Longo was found dead at his home in Austin, Texas, on Feb. 8.

According to the report, Longo’s wife Stephanie was at work at a local dance studio at the time. Growing concerned when she couldn’t reach him, she asked the local police department to check on him — and officers found Longo dead in bed.

While the cause of death is not known, a family member told TMZ that Longo had struggled with alcohol abuse for years. He’d gone to rehab over the summer, but Longo’s family suspects that he relapsed, and alcoholism was the likely cause of his death.

Longo joined the cast of DAYS in 2011, bringing the character of Carly and Lawrence’s son back to the canvas after an 11-year absence. The actor only played the role for a handful of episodes before Nicholas left town with Carly. Longo went on to star as rocker heartthrob Eddie Duran in the Nick at Night and TeenNick soap HOLLYWOOD HEIGHTS during the summer of 2012 opposite fellow soap grad Brittany Underwood (Langston, ONE LIFE TO LIVE) and future soap star Melissa Ordway (Abby, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS).

In addition to his wife, Longo leaves behind three young children: a 7-year-old daughter, a 5-year-old son, and a 1-year-old son. “Cody was our whole world,” his wife said in a statement. “The kids and I are shattered and beyond devastated. He was the best dad and best father. We will always and forever miss you and love you.”

In addition to his role on DAYS and HOLLYWOOD HEIGHTS, Longo appeared on several episodes of NASHVILLE and in the first season of the ABC Family teen drama MAKE IT OR BREAK IT.

Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
