Galen Gering Says Goodbye to DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Actor Galen Gering celebrated his birthday on Feb. 13 but that day also marked his final day as Rafe since he is leaving DAYS OF OUR LIVES. “Thank you all so much for the incredible birthday wishes,” he shared on Instagram along with some photos from his goodbye. “I’ve always seen birthdays as a day of reflection, an opportunity to look back at where I’ve been and where I’m going. So it’s oddly befitting that today also happens to be my last day at DAYS.

“Man, I have had such great memories from the last 10 years,” Gering continued. “Onscreen I’ve fought for marriages and fought evil twins. I’ve put people in prison and been imprisoned. And offscreen, I’ve made friendships that I will have for a lifetime. All the while, I’ve been so fortunate to have the love and support of the greatest fans in the world. I hope you know how thankful I am to have had you at my side. With that said, the journey continues and I hope to bring you along for the ride. Thanks for the memories, DAYS. Like sands through the hourglass…”

Gering made his daytime debut back in 1999 as Officer Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald on the NBC soap PASSIONS, and remained with the soap until its cancellation in 2008. And by October of that year, he had been cast on DAYS as FBI agent Rafe Hernandez. No final airdate has been officially announced, but since DAYS tapes so far in advance, Gering should continue to air well into the summer. And depending on how Rafe is written out, there’s every possibility that he could be back one day. (Heck, on DAYS, even being killed off doesn’t mean you’re gone for good!)
