Robert Scott Wilson Returns to DAYS OF OUR LIVES as a New Character!
Fans may have been upset to see Ben and Ciara sail off into the sunset, but they can take heart that at least Ben’s portrayer, Robert Scott Wilson, is returning to DAYS OF OUR LIVES as a brand new character! He will be making his debut as Alexander Kiriakis in the episode scheduled to air on Tuesday, July 26!
“I really loved playing Ben,” Wilson told TV Insider in a video interview. “I had a great time. An amazing journey with him. And then I got a phone call about this opportunity and when he explained it to me I got so excited. And then the first scripts came and I got more excited.
“And then as I understood what they were doing with this character, it’s been just the biggest breath of fresh air I could ever imagine,” he continued. “I’m having more fun than I think I’ve ever had on any project. He’s such a fun character. He’s the polar opposite of Ben Weston.”
Wilson got his big break as the first male model on THE PRICE IS RIGHT in 2012 and made his daytime debut in 2013 playing Pete Cortland on the online revival of ABC soap ALL MY CHILDREN. He joined the cast of DAYS in April 2014, taking over the role of Ben Weston from Justin Gaston, who had been playing the character for only a couple of months.
Ben being revealed as the “Necktie Killer” in 2015 seemed to spell the end of Wilson’s run on the soap, but DAYS brought the actor back multiple times in the years that followed for brief stints before returning in 2018 full-time as Ben was redeemed and his relationship with Ciara created another supercouple for the NBC sudser.
Unfortunately, with Ciara’s portrayer Victoria Konefal unwilling to sign a long-term contract, the decision was made to write the popular pairing off the soap but headwriter Ron Carlivati teased that it wouldn’t be the last we’d see of Wilson in Salem.
The character of Alexander Kiriakis was born to parents Justin Kiriakis and Anjelica Deveraux back in 1989 and was played as a child by Jonathan Thornton. Now that Alex is all grown up, Wilson is looking forward to bringing the character back to Salem in a big way. “At the beginning, he may seem a bit brash,” the actor teased. “It may seem a little bit more like he’s this playboy. He’s ruthless, but he does love his family.”
