Soap star Steve Burton is reprising one of his old roles, but sorry, GENERAL HOSPITAL fans, it’s not Jason Morgan. The actor has been tapped to play Harris Michaels on the upcoming DAYS OF OUR LIVES: BEYOND SALEM (Chapter 2)!
DAYS was actually Burton’s big break in daytime (his actual big break was in 1987 as surfer boy Chris fuller on the sitcom OUT OF THIS WORLD). In 1988, he played Harris Michaels, who went to school with Eve Donovan (played by Charlotte Ross at the time). He took his pal up on a bet to see who could sleep with Eve first, but he ended up falling in love with her. Unfortunately, when she found out what he and his buddies were up to, she tried to kill herself, so their romance was never to be.
“That was my introduction to daytime,” Burton told Soap Opera Digest in an episode of their podcast, Dishing With Digest. “I was supposed to do, I think it was like, 10 episodes of DAYS and it turned into a lot more. It was really exciting.”
Burton also played Dylan McAvoy on CBS sudser THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS from 2013-17, but the actor is best known for his popular runs as Jason Morgan on GH. He joined that soap in 1992 and won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 1998. He left in 2012 to join the cast of Y&R but returned to Port Charles in 2017. However, in November 2021, Burton was let go from GH for refusing to comply with the COVID-19 vaccine mandate that had been put in place by Disney/ABC.
The second series of BEYOND SALEM is scheduled to premiere on streaming service Peacock on Monday, July 11, and run all week before concluding on Friday, July 15. So you’ll just have to wait until then to see how Harris Michaels factors into the storyline this time around!
