Victoria Grace’s Daytime Emmy Nomination Rescinded

The Daytime Emmy Award nominations were just announced but not all of the nominees are celebrating. Unfortunately, DAYS OF OUR LIVES actress Victoria Grace (Wendy) has rescinded her nomination in the Outstanding Younger Performer category.

“I was honored to be nominated for a Daytime Emmy and to be recognized by the Academy,” Grace wrote in a statement published to her social media. “Unfortunately, there was a huge misunderstanding across the board regarding the rules for this year’s category. This is obviously a surprise and I am heartbroken, but in fairness to all, I’ll be rescinding my nomination. I wish the best of luck to all the nominees. I will continue to work hard to earn another Daytime Emmy nomination next year!”

For the 2020 Daytime Emmy Awards, the Outstanding Younger Actor and Outstanding Younger Actress categories were merged into the single, gender-neutral Outstanding Younger Performer category. The age cap for this particular category used to be 25, but was lowered to 21 in 2021 and for this year’s Daytime Emmys, was lowered further to 18.

While Grace didn’t go into details regarding the “huge misunderstanding,” the obvious explanation is that she’s simply over the age limit and neither she nor DAYS realized that submitting her in the Younger Performer category was against the rules. And, of course, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences also didn’t realize when they included her among the nominees.

As the Outstanding Younger Performer category only had four nominees to begin with, there will now be three vying for the trophy on Emmy night: Cary Christopher (Thomas, DAYS), Eden McCoy (Josslyn, GENERAL HOSPITAL), and Henry Joseph Samiri (Douglas, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL).
