What Happened to Alice Gunderson on GENERAL HOSPITAL
Longtime fans remember Alice Gunderson on GENERAL HOSPITAL as the Quartermaine’s loyal maid for many, many years. The role was played by actress Bergen Williams on a recurring basis from July 2001 until December 2014, which was the last anyone saw of her on GH.
Alice Gunderson started out as a housekeeper at the mansion but the Quartermaines soon began to see her as one of the family and Monica Quartermaine allowed her to live in the mansion and she was often part of their memorable Thanksgiving pizza dinners. Alice also moonlighted as a professional wrestler, calling herself “The Dominator.” She had a crush on Luke Spencer, which annoyed his then-wife Tracy Quartermaine, especially after he forged Alan Quartermaine’s will to give Alice a tidy sum.
After Edward Quartermaine passed away, he left Alice a 5% share of ELQ voting stock. She also worked as a camp counselor for Lilia’s Kids Summer Camp, an ELQ subsidiary. When Tracy plotted to take ELQ back from Michael Corinthos, Alice tried to warn him but collapsed before she could. After she was rushed to the hospital, Monica ran tests and discovered Alice had suffered a heart attack and was in desperate need of a transplant.
When the young Rafe Kovich, Jr. was left brain dead following a car crash, his heart was a match and Dr. Silas Clay was all ready to perform the transplant until Dr. Liesl Obrecht revealed they couldn’t use the organ as drugs were found in Rafe’s system. In the hopes of raising Alice’s spirits, Morgan Corinthos arranged for her favorite WWE wrestler, David Otunga, to pay her a visit in the hospital. The next day, Tracy learned that mobster Mickey Diamond had been shot and was now brain dead, so she checked his records and found out he could be a viable donor.
Unfortunately, Mickey wasn’t registered as an organ donor so they needed family consent to the transplant. Sonny Corinthos secretly stepped in to pay a woman to pose as Mickey’s sister to sign the forms so that Alice could receive her life-saving heart transplant. She then told Michael about Tracy’s plans and when Tracy begged everyone for their ELQ shares to give to Jerry Jacks in exchange for a kidnapped Luke, Alice was the only one who agreed. Alice hasn’t been seen since then, though some fans like to imagine she’s still living and working in the Quartermaine mansion.
