Anthony Geary’s Revealing Chat With Nancy Lee Grahn

Tags:

In the third episode of Soaps In Quarantine, Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) and co-host Kaore Bonell welcome a very special guest, her former GENERAL HOSPITAL castmate Anthony Geary (ex-Luke)! “I love seeing your face and everything about you!” Grahn gushed to her friend. “I missed you terribly!”

In the 45-minute conversation, Geary dials in from his home in Amsterdam. The chat kicks off as Grahn admits she’s better known internationally for her work on the NBC soap SANTA BARBARA than GH, then she turns it back around on Geary to question him about what it was really like during the Luke and Laura heyday in the ’80s. “I think I’m really lucky to be where I am now based on the way I handled it,” he admitted. “I don’t think I handled it very well at all. I was not savvy. I was naive. It was a whole different world I could not wrap my head around. And the attention was way more than I bargained for.”

The pair discussed getting into the soap biz, the controversy of Luke and Laura’s romance emerging from rape, working together on GH, the changing face of daytime, and his decision to retire. “When I came back to the show in… 92, I think it was? After I’d been away for eight years, I knew I would probably never have a career beyond GH,” Geary confided. “It was a choice I made so that I could have a life beyond GH. I became very much interested in getting as much as I could as quickly as possible because I knew I wasn’t going to hang out in LA until I was 80 years old trying to get a job.”
