GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Bergen Williams Dead at 62

Tags:

Sad news for GENERAL HOSPITAL fans as the Twitter account for Bergen Williams is reporting that the actress died back on July 20 at the age of 62. According to a tweet, the actress “succumbed to the ravages of Wilson’s Disease surrounded by loving family. Bergen was a writer, inventor, and actress who played Big Alice on the TV soap GH.” According to the account’s screen name, Williams’ Twitter is managed by her sister, who shared the news of her passing.

Williams joined the cast of GH back in 2001 in the recurring role of Alice Gunderson, fondly known as “Big Alice” to her friends. She was the Quartermaine’s housekeeper who also moonlighted as a professional wrestler known as “The Dominator.” After suffering a heart attack, Alice needed a heart transplant, and Sonny stepped in to help make sure she got the life-saving surgery. The last time she appeared on the soap was back in December 2014 when Tracy begged everyone to sign their ELQ shares over to Jerry Jacks in exchange for a kidnapped Luke. (Alice was the only one who agreed to it!)

In addition to appearing on GH, Williams appeared in primetime television shows like LOIS & CLARK: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN, BABYLON FIVE, NYPD BLUE, THE DREW CAREY SHOW, 7TH HEAVEN, and NIP/TUCK. She could also be seen in films like Lord of Illusions and Clifford.

Wilson’s disease is a rare disorder that causes copper to accumulate in the liver, brain, and other vital organs. This can cause fatigue, muscle stiffness, uncontrolled movements, and problems with speech and physical coordination.

Many GH stars reached out on social media to share memories and condolences as news of their friend’s passing spread. Our thoughts are with Williams’ family and loved ones during this difficult time.
