Don’t panic! The role of Brando is being recast on GENERAL HOSPITAL, but it’s only temporary! In the new issue of Soap Opera Digest, they are reporting that Johnny Wactor will be out for a few episodes and the role will be played by actor Brad Schmidt. No reason for the temporary recast has been given, nor have any dates for those episodes been revealed, but they should be coming up soon.
Wactor joined the cast of GH in January 2020 as the newest member of the Corinthos family, and while he has dabbled in the “family business,” he left that all behind when he fell in love with Sasha and they were planning to welcome a child that they tragically lost.
While GH was Wactor’s daytime debut, his temporary fill-in has some experience in the genre. Schmidt’s resume includes a few episodes of CBS sudsers GUIDING LIGHT and AS THE WORLD TURNS at the very beginning of his career in 2002. He can also be seen in primetime series like SUMMERLAND, JOEY, HOUSE OF LIES, and YELLOWSTONE as well as films like Shattered Memories, Fifty Shades of Black, and The Birth of a Nation.
Temporary recasts have become somewhat more common on GH recently, with characters like Alexis Davis, Harmony Miller, and Sam McCall requiring other actors to fill in for the regular portrayers for a period of time. In fact, Sofia Mattsson was recently replaced by her own sister, Helena Mattsson for a few episodes opposite Wactor’s Brando, so now it’s going to be her turn to work with a temporary recast!
Please join us in welcoming Schmidt to the cast of GH, even if only temporarily, and wish him the best of luck!
