Chris Van Etten Is Leaving General Hospital

Unfortunately for Terry, Chet is on his way out of Port Charles as portrayer Chris Van Etten is leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL. In the recent issue of Soap Opera Digest, a setside source reported that the storyline had to be cut short because Van Etten moved away from California with his family.

The real-life military veteran-turned-actor first joined GH back in November 2017, and created a little bit of confusion among fans as there was already a writer at the soap also named Chris Van Etten. Introduced as nurse Amy Driscoll’s brother, Chet made occasional appearances over the years, and worked at The Floating Rib and later Volonino’s Gym, and recently started a relationship with Dr. Terry Randolph. However, in May 2022, Chet received a surprising job offer in Chicago that Amy had applied to for him in the hopes of splitting up her brother and Terry.

Realizing the connection Chet and Terry had made, Amy had second thoughts and confessed her scheme to her brother, telling him not to take the job. But Terry urged him not to give up on his dream job, so it’s looking like he’ll be leaving Port Charles behind and the role will not be recast. There has been no specific final airdate given for Van Etten, but it should be very soon as Chet was considering whether or not to take the job in Chicago in the May 27 episode.

Back in June 2021, Van Etten shared a photo of himself on Instagram standing in the foundation for a new house that had yet to be built. “Doesn’t look like much yet, but soon we’ll call it home,” he declared. “After being in California for over 12 years, that chapter is drawing to a close. Looking forward to being back with family.” The photo is tagged as being taken in Illinois, which is where he, his wife Samantha, and their children, Milo (2) and Lena (1).
