Christina Comes Home For Christmas on GH — Everything You Need to Know

For fans curious about Christina Comes Home for Christmas on GENERAL HOSPITAL, the movie that Martin tried to put on for Laura in the Dec. 8 episode (and that Dante and Sam made the kids watch on Thanksgiving), we’re sorry to say that it’s not actually a real film that you can rent or stream anywhere. But it does have a surprising soap connection GH fans might not be aware of!

Christina Comes Home For Christmas is the title of the Dec. 9, 2008 episode of ONE LIFE TO LIVE, the ABC soap which Frank Valentini helmed before its cancellation and he moved over to become executive producer of GH. In this special hour, the various characters living in Llanview shared their love for the classic holiday film which is shown every year.

When Martin suggested putting the perennial holiday favorite on, Laura refused to watch it because while she admitted it was a family tradition to watch it each year, it didn’t feel right now with them hiding in protective custody. Laura tried to explain to her brother how she didn’t want to watch a movie about a woman who gets to go home for Christmas when she can’t do the same thing herself.

While GH didn’t show any footage from the movie, when the episode of OLTL aired in 2008, the soap’s characters were all shown tuning in to watch Christina Comes Home for Christmas and some scenes from the film were included in the hour. Two actors were cast as Christina and her husband and they were dressed in ‘40s period costumes on era-appropriate sets for the black-and-white footage shot especially for the daytime drama.

Sadly, while some footage from that episode exists on YouTube, the picture quality is rather terrible. But you can still check out a little bit of it below so you can see what all the fuss is about. It’s a shame it’s not an actual movie we can watch during the holiday season, but it is still a really fun little nod to OLTL and the history that the ABC soaps have all shared together!
