Confirmed! Cameron Mathison is Playing GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Drew Cain!

Tags:

Ever since it was announced that ALL MY CHILDREN vet Cameron Mathison (Ryan) would be joining the cast of GENERAL HOSPITAL in a mysterious role, the prediction was that he’d be playing Sam’s former husband and Jason’s presumed-dead twin, Drew. And now comes confirmation from Entertainment Weekly that Mathison will indeed be joining the soap on Monday, Aug. 16, in the very role vacated by Billy Miller in July 2019!

Ah, but there is a soapy twist! Mathison will first be heard on GH before he is seen! While on a cozy date with Dante, Sam receives a call from an unknown number — and it is Drew on the other side! “I actually call her to say I’m in trouble,” Mathison revealed, first speaking in character. “He reaches out for a good reason. She’s obviously incredibly important to him. They’ve got a child together, and that daughter is everything in the world to him. He reaches out to Sam because he really believes that help will follow.”

As longtime GH viewers know, Drew was last seen getting on an elevator at the hospital before flying off to Afghanistan to return the cash Shiloh stole while they were serving together overseas. After that, Drew tracked down Andre sent the doctor back to Port Charles in the hopes that he could restore Franco’s memory. Unfortunately, thanks to Peter — who was trying to cover his participation in Helena’s memory-swapping plot — Drew’s plane vanished, and Sam’s partner was later declared dead.

While Mathison admitted to having some trepidation in joining GH as a recast, he also admitted that he was looking forward to being Drew Cain. “Billy Miller and Steve Burton (Jason) both played him for a bit,” Mathison pointed out. “I feel like there’s enough [about Drew] that has been sort of untapped. There is an opportunity for me to bring my own take and version of this great character.”

Mathison wouldn’t ‘fess up to whether his time as Drew was limited or open-ended but did tease that “I’ll just say I’m under contract at GH. I don’t want to get in trouble! I’m super humbled and excited to be there.”

Be sure to tune in on Monday, Aug. 16, as Mathison’s story kicks off!
