Evil never dies! Constance Towers is returning to GENERAL HOSPITAL as Helena for another appearance! The veteran actress’ Facebook page is reporting that she has taped scenes for two upcoming episodes scheduled to air on Friday, May 5, and Monday, May 8. (Obviously, at this early stage, those dates could change if there are any preemptions or rescheduling necessary, so keep that in mind.)
The character of Helena Cassadine was introduced back in 1981 when GH fan Elizabeth Taylor guest-starred on the soap during the iconic wedding of Luke and Laura. Dimitra Arliss stepped into the role briefly in July 1996, but in 1997, the Cassadine matriarch returned to the canvas full-time in December 1997 with Towers taking over.
After her initial run ended in 2002, Towers continued to make numerous appearances in the years that followed until 2015 when Helena died for what appeared to be the final time. However, the actress did return for occasional episodes after that, in a taped will reading, in nightmares, and in flashbacks. Her most recent appearance on GH was in January 2022 when guests at Luke Spencer’s memorial were aghast to screen a video of Helena gloating about his death.
Towers actually made her daytime debut playing Clarissa McCandless on CBS sudser CAPITOL for its entire run from 1982-87. She also had small roles on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS and SUNSET BEACH. The actress has also appeared in numerous films and primetime television programs throughout her extensive career.
As this return to GH is only for two episodes, the people of Port Charles probably don’t need to worry about Helena coming back from the dead to wreak more havoc. It’s likely this appearance will once again be flashbacks or yet another video she recorded to be played after her death. Stay tuned to see how Helena factors into the upcoming storyline!
