GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Donnell Turner Mourns the Death of His Beloved Mother
Our thoughts and prayers are with GENERAL HOSPITAL star Donnell Turner (Curtis), who revealed on social media that his beloved mother, Dr. Lorraine Sylvester, had suddenly died. “It is with a saddened and heavy heart that I share that my beautiful mother, Dr. Lorraine Sylvester, passed away suddenly this past Friday, Aug. 27,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “She had just turned 70 years on Aug. 14.”
In his lengthy tribute remembering his mother, Turner wrote that those who knew Sylvester and had the pleasure of meeting her knew “how full of life she was, her effervescent personality, how she always carried a bright light everywhere she went and had a positive word to say about everyone. Mom was not only a dynamic mother to three sons, but she was a loving grandmother, doting great-grandmother, faithful sister, caring aunt, evangelist, educator, administrator, therapist, and friend. She was a beautiful person and a strong woman who had much wisdom to share.”
Sylvester indeed left a lasting impression on those that she met, as Turner’s GH co-star, Parry Shen (Brad), shared on Twitter. “Breaks my heart to hear this,” Shen wrote on Twitter in reply to Turner’s linked post. “I remember meeting your mom at [the GH Fan Club Weekend] and recalled she was so excited to meet the entire cast like the other attendees — she was always so memorable with all the positivity and joy that exuded out of her. Hugs to you and your family.”
As she was often his sounding board, Turner continued that he can’t imagine his life without his mother. “Going forward, I am not sure from where I will get my wisdom, but I am sure that Mom adequately prepared me for what lies ahead,” he confessed. “Her memory and legacy will forever live on, and I am eternally grateful for the 48 years I was blessed to have with her. I attempted to give her the flowers she so richly deserved while she was here, yet I can’t help but feel I could have done more. Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your condolences and for allowing me to share my lovely mother with you. May she RIP. I love you, Mom.”
