What Happened to Ellie on GENERAL HOSPITAL
Every time she’s mentioned, some newer viewers wondering who is Ellie Trout on GENERAL HOSPITAL? The character was first introduced back in September 2012 and was played by actress Emily Wilson until 2013. However, she has made some subsequent appearances on GH alongside Bradford Anderson’s Spinelli in the following years, so whenever he’s back in town some fans wonder if she might show up again as well. Although she hasn’t joined him for his past visits, in December 2022, Wilson once again reprised the role.
Ellie first appeared when Damian Spinelli approached her at the lab in General Hospital to run some tests to confirm whether the baby that had died was really Sam and Franco’s. Grateful for her help. Spinelli asked her out and the pair hit it off. Their relationship developed and after they’d slept together, a jealous Maxie Jones declared she was in love with Spinelli. Although he promised he was committed to her, Ellie broke up with Spinelli because he kept putting Maxie’s needs ahead of her own.
Spinelli suggested they meet on the hospital roof on New Year’s Eve, and although Maxie urged Ellie to go, the redhead didn’t show up because her car broke down and while walking along the highway to get a better cell signal, was hit by Connie Falconeri. Ellie was brought to the hospital and it was feared she could be paralyzed, but she recovered. Making matters worse, Ellie learned that when she didn’t arrive on New Year’s, Spinelli had sex with Maxie! She reconciled with Spinelli and even helped him uncover the secret ingredient of Pickle Lila, but when Ellie learned that Maxie had miscarried Dante and Lulu’s embryo and later got pregnant, she realized she was carrying Spinelli’s baby!
Maxie persuaded Ellie to keep quiet but after the baby girl was born, the lab tech couldn’t keep the secret any longer and told Spinelli he was a father. He was upset that she kept that secret from him but forgave her and accepted her help when he fought for custody of little Georgie. After he was granted sole custody of his daughter, Spinelli decided to move to Portland with Ellie, who had gotten a new job running a hospital lab there.
In 2014, Ellie was seen when Carly and Franco visited Spinelli looking for help, and the following year, Ellie followed Spinelli to Port Charles to try and repair their relationship. He said that he was back with Maxie, and Ellie later met Nathan West, who she blamed for their reunion because he let Maxie go too easily. Ellie agreed to attend the Nurses Ball with Nathan, and by the end of the event, both couples realized they were with the wrong person and Spinelli and Ellie were back together. They have since visited for the holidays, and in 2020, Spinelli was back in Port Charles with Georgie, revealing that Ellie had gotten a great job at a nearby hospital so they moved back East.
Unfortunately, in 2021, Spinelli admitted to Jason that Ellie had moved out because of his involvement with the Corinthos family and its mob activities and their relationship was over. So it’s unlikely that she’ll be making any future appearances in Port Charles… but you never know!
