Esme Returns to GENERAL HOSPITAL!
Enough people have survived falls from the parapet at Wyndemere that as soon as Esme took a tumble during her fight with Ava fans knew it was only a matter of time before she resurfaced! And sure enough, portrayer Avery Kristen Pohl is returning to GENERAL HOSPITAL the week of Oct. 3!
The actress revealed in the new issue of Soap Opera Digest that she had gotten a heads-up in advance that she would be written off of the soap, but was assured her exit was only temporary. “Our executive producer, Frank Valentini, was like, ‘Hey, by the way, I don’t want you to freak out, but we’re writing you off the canvas for a little bit,’” she recalled. “I had no other context for a while. then, later, he told me, ‘You’re being shoved off the parapet.’ And then later he told me Ava was going to be the one who did it.
“From there, it was always just sort of me always trying to find out new information,” she added, “because your brain sort of spins and scrambles when you hear something like that. You’re like, ‘Well, how long will it be until I come back?’ There are a lot of questions that come to mind.”
Aside from her one appearance in Spencer’s nightmare for an episode in August, Pohl had about two-and-a-half months off from work where she was able to travel around Europe. Of course, coming back to work and stepping back into Esme’s shoes proved a bit of an adjustment. “I definitely still felt rusty,” the actress confessed. “But by the time I had shot a few episodes, I felt way more back into the groove.”
Of course, the question remains where Esme has been all this time and what kind of plotting and scheming she’s been up to in her quest for revenge. “Now that I’m back, I think there’s an even bigger question at work about what’s going on,” Pohl laughed, “and my lips are sealed on that one!”
