GENERAL HOSPITAL Alum Tony Dow Is Not Dead

Although it was reported earlier today that veteran actor Tony Dow had died the morning of July 26, 2022, that was incorrect. The previous message has been removed from his Facebook page and a new one has been posted by Frank and Renee, his management team.

“Thank you for your patience in getting an update out to all of you,” they wrote. “As we are sure you can imagine, this has been a roller coaster of ups and downs as Tony continues his fight with cancer. Tony has been in and out of the hospital with various complications and treatments. He and Lauren have been trying to maintain a positive spirit, though at times this proves difficult. The outpouring of love and concern from all of you certainly helps to ease this, and for that we thank you. We will post again when there is more to report. Until then, keep the good thoughts, coming.”

Entertainment reporter George Pennacchio shared a little more information in an update on his own Facebook page. “I had a conversation with his wife, Lauren,” he wrote. “She is understandably distraught and grief-stricken about what’s been going on with Tony’s health battle these past months. He’s been in hospice care at their home, and based on some health issues overnight, Lauren inferred that Tony had passed away to some people close to her and the word quickly spread. Lauren admits she’s been ‘a little fuzzy’ these days — understandable.”

Best known for playing Wally Cleaver on the classic sitcom LEAVE IT TO BEAVER, Dow also appeared in daytime, playing police officer Ross Jeanelle on GENERAL HOSPITAL back in the mid-‘70s as well as race car driver Chet on the short-lived ABC soap NEVER TOO YOUNG in the mid-‘60s.

Our thoughts are with Dow’s wife, Lauren, and all of his friends and family as he continues his battle with cancer.
