Please join us in congratulating Genie Francis on her 45th anniversary as Laura on GENERAL HOSPITAL! “It’s always a party behind the scenes at GH, but today is one for the history books,” the soap shared on Instagram with some pics of her set-side party. “Genie Francis joined the cast on this day in 1977 and we will forever be in her debt. Happy Anniversary, Genie!” (Swipe through their Instagram gallery below to see some of the fun that was had!)
The soap’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, also wrote his own post to celebrate her accomplishment. “Please join me in wishing the indelible Daytime Emmy Award winner Genie Francis a happy 45th anniversary,” he declared. “Port Charles would not be the same without her or the legacy of Laura Collins.”
Some of the cast was on set to celebrate with the crew at the party, but everyone shared the love on social media. “So happy and honored to celebrate this special milestone in the career of one of our finest!” cheered Charles Shaughnessy (Victor).
Although Esme is a real troublemaker who Laura doesn’t trust as far as she can throw, portrayer Avery Pohl is grateful to be working alongside the daytime legend. “Happy 45th anniversary to the amazing Genie Francis who may just be one of the kindest, most professional, and hardest-working person I’ve ever met!” she exclaimed. “Really an honor to get to watch you work.”
Kin Shriner, who was playing Scott back in the ‘70s when Francis took over the role of Laura, shared a vintage snap of them on Twitter skating into viewers’ hearts!
“Happy anniversary, Genie!” tweeted fellow GH veteran Lynn Herring (Lucy). “I am so fortunate to work with you and this amazing GH cast and crew! Thank you for paving the way and for all you have done for daytime television!”
For her part, Francis remained humble amid all the accolades. “Thank you Frank and GH for remembering!” she tweeted. “It doesn’t feel like 45 years. Hard to believe. I am truly blessed.”
Here’s to another 45 more!
