GENERAL HOSPITAL Resumes Production

Fans of GENERAL HOSPITAL can breathe a sigh of relief! After it was announced on Jan. 5 that the soap would not be resuming production that week as originally planned due to the recent surge in COVID cases around the world, it was said they were only postponing production for a week. And although some fans may have been skeptical, given how infectious the Omicron variant has been, it now appears that was actually the case as multiple actors have shared that they’re going back to work!

“Big grin, don’t care!” Finola Hughes (Anna) posted to Instagram on Jan. 10 with one of her new official ABC gallery photos. “Back to GH tomorrow.” She also included the hashtags “#bestjobever” and “#family.”

And on the same day, Laura Wright (Carly) shared one of her new promo pics and wrote: “First day back in Carly’s World in 2022!” Which makes it sound as though some of the cast and crew resumed production that Monday.

This is very good news for GH viewers, as a delay of only one week will not affect the schedule of episodes as they air. Because the soap tapes approximately one month in advance — and had already worked ahead a little extra because of the planned holiday break — taking an extra week off won’t cause any interruption to broadcast.

When the coronavirus began spreading around the world in early 2020, Hollywood shut down film and television productions, which included daytime dramas. But because that shutdown lasted until July, the soaps (except for DAYS OF OUR LIVES, which was about six months ahead of schedule) all ran out of new episodes to air. So the networks chose to air encore episodes for fans as they awaited the return of all-new shows.

Thankfully, that won’t be necessary this time around as GH only had to postpone production for a week as originally planned. Hopefully, the cast and crew will remain safe during this challenging time to continue producing the daily drama that fans can’t live without!
