GENERAL HOSPITAL Star Jacklyn Zeman Dead at 70

Tags:

The daytime community was heartbroken by the news that GENERAL HOSPITAL star Jacklyn Zeman (Bobbie) died at the age of 70. Her family confirmed to ABC News that she passed away after a short battle with cancer but the soap’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, first broke the tragic news to fans on Twitter.

“On behalf of our GH family, I am heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Jacklyn Zeman,” he wrote. “Just like her character, the legendary Bobbie Spencer, she was a bright light and a true professional that brought so much positive energy with her to work.

“Jackie will be greatly missed,” he continued, “but her positive spirit will always live on with our cast and crew. We send our heartfelt sympathy to her loved ones, friends, and family, especially her daughters Cassidy and Lacey.”

Zeman launched her daytime career back in 1976, playing the role of Lana McClain on ONE LIFE TO LIVE for a year. But then she was cast as Barbara “Bobbie” Jean Spencer on GH and became a soap star.

During her time in Port Charles, Zeman received three Daytime Emmy Award nominations in the Supporting Actress category in 1981, 1995, and 1997 as well as a Lead Actress nomination in 1998 .

In addition to her work on GH, Zeman could be seen in the comedy films National Lampoon’s Class Reunion and Young Doctors in Love as well as in episodes of shows like SLEDGE HAMMER! and CHICAGO HOPE and streaming series like MISGUIDED and THE BAY.

Our thoughts are with Zeman’s family and friends during this difficult time, especially her daughters Cassidy and Lacey.
