GH’s Josh Swickard Completed the Malibu Triathlon — With No Training!

Please join us in congratulating GENERAL HOSPITAL star Josh Swickard (Chase) on completing the Malibu Triathlon! The course includes a half-mile ocean swim, a 17-mile out-and-back bike ride along the Pacific Coast Highway, and a four-mile out-and-back run along the shores of Zuma Beach. And what’s even more impressive is that the actor didn’t even train for it!

“Tomorrow I’m running the Malibu Triathlon,” Swickard revealed in a video he posted to Instagram on Sept. 17 (with an adorable cameo from his little girl, Savannah). “I haven’t trained for it. I don’t swim. I’ve never ridden a road bike. This is going to be a new experience for me. I’m very scared. But I’m very excited. And I’m excited to take you guys along. And we’re gonna see what happens.

“I don’t think anything bad bad is gonna happen,” he continued. “I just don’t think it’s gonna be a great time. I’m excited to push myself and get uncomfortable, but I’m terrified. I’m from the midwest so I think sharks eat people still. I’ve never ridden a road bike where you clip in. So we’ll see. The run will be fine. I’m not nervous for the run. Because you can walk and nothing bad happens!”

When race time came around at 7 a.m. on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 18, Swickard threw himself into the challenge and emerged triumphant! “What an amazing experience,” he enthused of his accomplishment. “I would definitely recommend training for something like this, but boy, what an amazing testament to what the human body is capable of.

“Grateful for my family for waking up far earlier than they should have so they could cheer me on in the transition areas,” he added. “Love you all! Okay, time to go ice my entire body. Swimming makes you sore in some odd places when you do the breastdoggysidebackfloat stroke… yes, I made up a new stroke today.”

Swickard placed 623 out of 1753 entrants, with a total time of 2:15:03, which is very impressive for someone who didn’t train for the race. So congratulations again!
