Smoltz on GENERAL HOSPITAL — Everything You Need To Know
Smoltz on GENERAL HOSPITAL is a recurring character who has become very good at stirring up drama in Port Charles! He first appeared in February 2022 and is played by actor David Lautman, who has appeared in numerous television series and short films in his career like CSI, 90210, Take Me Back, and Show Stealer.
Grant Smoltz is a freelance journalist who showed up in Alexis Davis’ office at The Invader to ask the editor in chief why she hadn’t responded to any of his story pitches. She explained that they aren’t reporting on the usual tabloid gossip anymore and turned down his new pitch about Nina Reeves destroying the marriage of Sonny Corinthos and Carly Corinthos.
Smoltz then showed up at the hospital where he tried questioning Jordan Ashford about the investigation of the sex tape of Cameron Webber and Josslyn Jacks. After she refused to talk to him, the reporter saw Michael Corinthos down the hall and asked him about it. But when Smoltz suggested Josslyn uploaded the video herself, Michael punched him in the face! Smoltz called it assault and watched as Jordan placed Michael under arrest. He again tried pitching the story to Alexis, but she kicked him out of her office.
At the courthouse, Smoltz caught up with Cam and Joss and tried to get a statement about Trina Robinson’s arrest. But Ava Cassadine interrupted and threatened him to back off. He then confronted Alexis about her hiring another writer to report on the sex tape and threatened to sue her for stealing his story. She reluctantly told him to let her know when he had another pitch. Smoltz then met with Michael about the assault case and agreed to drop the charges in exchange for writing a smear piece on Nina. He and Willow Tait gave Smoltz their side of the story, but when he attempted to speak with Nina, she told him to go to hell.
Alexis tried turning down his pitch again, but Smoltz insisted this would be a multi-part feature that would bring huge traffic to The Invader’s website and explained his angle to put a human face on the legal system and expose the gaps in it. Alexis reluctantly agreed it would be a good story but warned the writer to make sure it was not exploitative and to include Nina’s side.
Smoltz took matters into his own hands over the summer when he learned that Sasha Gilmore had been under the influence when she’d killed Harmony Miller in a hit-and-run. He arranged for Sasha to meet with her dealer, Sienna, in the hopes of digging up dirt he could use. But when Sasha caught them together, she flew into a rage and smashed his car windshield with a parking sign! Smoltz insisted on having her arrested and charged, but eventually backed down.
