How the Art Is Created for Ava’s Gallery on GENERAL HOSPITAL

Ever since it opened up, Ava’s gallery has been the center of quite a bit of drama on GENERAL HOSPITAL. But whereas regular soap sets tend to look pretty much the same day in, day out, an art gallery needs a constant influx of new artwork to hang on its walls as pieces are bought and sold. In a backstage video shared on social media, the soap offered a peek at how they create these unique works of art, courtesy of GH production designer Jennifer Elliot.

“Frank [Valentini, GH’s executive producer] asked me to create a new show for Ava’s gallery, one of our favorite sets on GH,” she explains. “And so I enlisted the help of Brett Meyers, because he’s our number one scenic artist. And he created some fantastic works of art. And we just wanted to take you behind-the-scenes so you can see a little bit of his process.”

The video then uses time-lapse photography to show Meyers creating multiple paintings on large canvases that viewers will recognize from recent episodes where they could be spotted hanging on the gallery walls. It’s fascinating to watch his technique and see just how these beautiful works of art were developed. Now, if only fans could actually purchase their favorite pieces… or even prints!
